Following their success in the League earlier in the season our newly
formed Curraha/St. Vincent’s adult Ladies team played their first ever Championship
game at Masterson Park, Ardcath on Friday evening last August 15 th . In the first
round of the Junior D Championship we got off to a slow start as many of our players
took some time to adjust to the pace of the game and the physicality of a seasoned
Rathkenny side. At half time we were eight points behind on a scoreline of 1-9 to 4
points. However, after a spirited second half come-back we just lost out by two points
and were unlucky not to win the game, the Rathkenny goalkeeper and the woodwork
denying us goals on a few occasions.
Ciara Morgan was undoubtably the hero for Curraha/St. Vincent’s, despite
been unable to start the game because of an injury, she came off the bench midway
through the first half and proceeded to score 2-7. Our only other score being a point
from Roisin O’Connor. Others to stand out were Jessica Brennan, Hannah Keogh,
Shauna White and Kirsty Green. With the experience of this first game at a higher
standard behind them our girls can look forward with confidence to the next round.
Final score : Curraha/St. Vincent’s 2-8, Rathkenny 1-13.
Carly Parsons, Ava Cleary, Ava Cleary, Jessica Brennan, Katelyn McMahon, Hannah
Keogh, Mollie Whyte, Shauna White, Larissa Cleary, Lara Parsons, Kirsty Green,
Katie Tuite, Sarah McLoughlin, Roisin O’Connor and Niamh Byrne.
Ciara Morgan for Niamh Byrne. Ellan Gough for Sarah McLoughlin.
